The Yellow-throated Macaw, also known as the Golden Conure or the Sunbird Conure, is a type of parrot. They have a large body that's mostly yellow in color, which is why they're called by this name. They live in the dry highland rainforests of the Amazon basin in Brazil. Their population is decreasing due to deforestation and flooding, as well as poaching. In the wild, Yellow-throated Macaws are playful and social birds who even take care of unrelated chicks. However, it's rare for domesticated Golden Conures to exhibit this behavior, and sometimes they abandon their young after three weeks. They eat fruits, flowers, sprouts, seeds, and corn as part of their diet, which includes mangoes and Brazilian strawberries. Yellow-throated Macaws reach maturity at just one year old, with breeding season taking place between November and February the following year. They nest in tree cavities and protect their eggs. The eggs are 37.1 millimeters long and 29.9 millimeters wide, take 30 days to incubate, and both male and female birds take turns hatching them. After they mature, females lay some immature eggs for the first few years until they're around six to eight years old. When domesticated Yellow-throated Macaw chicks are removed from their parents, the parents will breed again. Newborn Yellow-throated Macaws have a thick layer of white down on their bodies that turns darker after a week. By the third week, their flight feathers start growing in. The young birds love to play but also bully each other.
