Kiyooka Michinosuke\ Born October 20, 1831, in Tanno-ura, Aki District.\ His father was Kiyooka Matsumaro Harutoshi, a Daimyo from the province of Tosa. At thirty-three years old.\ From an early age, he studied both literature and martial arts under the guidance of Okamoto Neiho.\ In 1854 at twenty-one years old, he traveled to Edo where he studied with Sato Issai among others before returning home again to Edo, but after his father's death, he resumed his studies in the countryside. In 1861, he was ordered to Osaka as a guard for the Yoshii faction but due to his poor eyesight, he was unable to pursue his studies and returned home.\ That same year, he met with Sakamoto Ryoma, taking an oath of allegiance as allies.\ When sentenced to prison by the pro-Imperial party, Kiyooka presented a formal petition protesting his sentence, but it was ignored by his lord. In July 1864, he gathered his comrades and marched on Nagonami Mountain intending to pressure their lord into submission through force, but were defeated and killed at Naehan River, with his head displayed as a trophy for leading the rebellion.\ A monument was erected for Kiyooka with non-contact three-dimensional measurement technology used to improve readability.
