Bianbo Bells with Coiled Chi-dragon Patterns (Part of a Five-Piece Set). Discovered in Shanbiao Town Tomb M1, Weihui City, Henan Province, this musical instrument is classified as a National Treasure due to its significance in understanding the Zhou system of rituals and music related to ancient burials. As part of a five-piece bianbo bells set, it is an essential component for comprehending the Zhou system's musical aspects associated with funerary rites. Bo-bells, larger versions of zhong-bells, were often used alongside drums to create fundamental rhythms in various south Chinese regions during the late Shang period. Initially designed as a single-piece instrument, bo-bells later evolved into a three-piece set within the Western Zhou and early Spring and Autumn periods, becoming an integral part of the Zhou system's musical repertoire.
