Twelfth century Seated Guanyin, now housed at the Minneapolis Institute of Art. About Water Moon Guanyin: Created during the Song Dynasty Location: Shanxi Province's Pingyao County, Double Lin Temple Originally named "Water Moon Guanyin", she defied traditional Buddhist sculpture norms by sitting cross-legged with her right leg bent and her left foot lightly touching a lotus leaf. Her center of gravity is on her left hip, while her right hand is slightly raised and her left hand serves as a supporting point, free from constraint and full of freedom. Her pose perfectly captures Guanyin's flowing lines and beautiful physique. People have forgotten her original name and affectionately call her Seated Guanyin. Ancient sculptors followed Buddhist iconography rules but also infused their own thoughts and emotions, creativity, and imagination into the work, breaking free from traditional constraints and blending in with rich cultural life and worldly feelings. Guanyin's high artistic value is still admired today! Regarding the term "Observant Seated One", it means being able to observe the world freely without any obstacles, and being able to help those suffering beings. Guanyin, also translated as "Light World Sound" or "Observant Seated One", is one of the three saints in the Western Paradise. She is known for her great compassion and mercy, and it's said that if someone invokes her name when in danger, Guanyin will rescue them in time. Many Guanyins have become ubiquitous bodhisattvas. The above information comes from Baidu Encyclopedia.
