The Great Wave off Kanagawa stands out as one of my favorite pieces of art. Created by Japanese ukiyo-e artist Katsushika Hokusai, it's a woodblock print that was first published between 1829 and 1833 in the late Edo period as part of Hokusai's Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji series. I've decided to create my own take on this iconic woodblock print. To achieve transparency alongside clear visibility of the contours, I believe using polycarbonate sheets is a viable option. My variation consists of 48 thin sheets of polycarbonate, each measuring 1.5 mm in thickness, which adds up to a total thickness of 72 mm. The dimensions remain largely similar to those of the original print. To keep my version intact, I've opted for a simple wooden frame made from mahogany wood - I think it's an ideal choice for this project. I'm really excited about this project and I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts, especially from fellow Japanese art enthusiasts.
