The Kawazumi House, a historic residence once occupied by the Kawazumi family, who served as village headmen in Dayamachi Village for generations during the Edo period, was donated to and renovated by the city for public viewing. The house itself retains its original 17th-century appearance and features an impressive "Suiraku-ro," a teahouse designed in the style of a mysterious, mystical abode. This teahouse is notable for being a favorite haunt of Ueda Akinari, author of the famous novel "Ugetsu Monogatari," who visited the location in 1798. The garden, a quintessential example of a traditional Edo-era village headman's residence, takes the form of a karesansui-style dry landscape garden. A prominent retaining wall stretches from the southern edge to the western side of the main garden area, while a small, dried-out pond sits at its center.
