The sight of Macau is a bleak one, with public grassy areas few and far between. Even the ornamental gardens are overrun with weeds, giving the impression that this city is forever bound to its dry and barren fate. People say that Macau's climate is unlike anything found in Europe or America, thus dooming it to a life without lush green spaces. Yet they overlook the fact that exotic flowers thrive in their new home. What's more, the Dog's Tooth Violet has long been stroking the ankles of athletes on the football field with its soft and gentle fingers, while the Taiwan Grass welcomes visitors all year round outside hotels and museums, and various wildflowers are blown about by spring breezes through the streets and alleys, reminding us that "a strong wind knows which grass is strong" and "the weak will only thrive under a benevolent ruler." The names of streets with greenery surrounded by walls can be found in the city's street directory, but streets selling imported plants like Grass Street and Pile of Grass Street are still a sea of people, showing that the concept of grass has been deeply ingrained. The grass may have no place to run, but it only lacks people's love. Maintaining a lawn requires careful attention every day, from watering and clearing weeds to turning over the soil, sowing seeds, fertilizing, testing pH levels, and draining water. How can these tasks be done carelessly? People choose to use "lawn turf" as a quick fix, adopting an attitude of waiting for someone else to do the work, but this will inevitably lead to a sense of guilt and laziness. Moreover, they blame the poor grass for being too delicate and easily killed, passing on their own responsibility to others. The gardener who shifts the blame will naturally give up taking care of the lawn, and neighbors who enjoy walking on the lawn also don't dare complain - after all, drying out is not their problem, and stepping on the sand is not just theirs alone. In the end, no one thinks about Mother Earth shivering in the rain due to her being stripped bare. As the good intentions of nourishing green grass eventually wither away into a dull yellow, the fence around the lawn simply gives up and covers itself in burnt ceramic tiles - like concrete roads covering over the original grass. From then on, people no longer have to worry about maintaining it. In this grayish world, people become indifferent, becoming grass roots growing between the cracks of the pavement, competing for sunlight with their neighboring wildflowers, but after endless struggles, who will remember the countless life forces that sprouted from the lawn?
