Macau's streets are sweltering hot, with buildings side by side, scorching skin and necks. People trudge along, their feet dragging, their heads reeling. The stone caves stand empty, yet the land gods seem absent. At a mundane "door god" shrine, a famous cartoon cat, Hello Kitty, greets me: "Hello!" I'm startled, thinking "Don't be strange," but it's really weird, is my heatstroke or a disconnection from reality? The sun beats down on my head, foggy thoughts cloud my brain, and my ears ring. Tears well up in my eyes, and my vision blurs. I knock on my skull, bewildered, but have no idea what's going on: "What's wrong with me? Am I crazy or just heat-exhausted?" Wait a minute, there is indeed a Hello Kitty figurine inside the shrine. Could it be a hidden trick to deceive passersby? In broad daylight, who would resort to such low-level pranks? The cat speaks innocently: "Hello ~ hello! Don't be silly... I'm Hello Kitty, everyone's favorite character..."
