I'm using a plastic PETG printer. I bought aluminum tubes at Leroy Merlin. The 12mm and 8mm tubes are good options. I also used an old printer's axle, which is 10mm in diameter. It fits perfectly into the 12mm tube where I made some notches to secure it inside. Then, I sharpened the end of the axle on a grinder.
