The Zodiac Killer is a notorious serial killer who terrorized the San Francisco Bay Area from the late 1960s to the early 1970s, leaving behind a trail of cryptic messages and codes that have remained unsolved for decades. His true identity remains unknown, despite numerous investigations and tips over the years. The Zodiac Killer's modus operandi was to write letters to local newspapers, boasting about his crimes and taunting the police with clues. One of his most famous letters is the "Z340," a cryptogram that has been cracked by some but not others. The killer also sent a cipher wheel to the San Francisco Chronicle in 1969, which was used to decode messages in one of his letters. The Zodiac Killer's crimes were marked by brutality and randomness, with no clear motive or pattern emerging from the evidence. He killed at least five people, and possibly many more, during his reign of terror. In recent years, DNA analysis has shed new light on the case, but so far, it has not led to a definitive identification of the killer. The Zodiac Killer's legacy continues to fascinate and horrify the public, with many books, films, and documentaries dedicated to his crimes.
