The statue has been found in a Bronze Age burial site dating back to 2700-2300 BC and is one of the oldest known representations of musicians ever discovered. It depicts a male figure, rendered three-dimensionally in space, seated on an elegant throne with his back straight, while holding a large musical instrument in his right hand that resembles a harp or lyre. His head is raised, and only the nose of his face is visible, in a plastic manner. His thighs are open, with the declaration of masculinity as a plastic prominence, something also found in other Cycladic statues.
