Canakkale Martyrs Monument The most visited main stop on the Gelibolu Peninsula, the monument is located on an old fortress-like Burnu. A project was opened and from among 37 projects, Doğan Erginbaş, İsmail Utkular, and Feridun Kip's project was selected. The foundation of the monument was laid on April 17, 1954. On August 21, 1960, which is the 45th anniversary of the Second Anafartalar Victory, Canakkale Martyrs Monument was opened to visit. It symbolizes and keeps alive the memory of all soldiers who fell in the Canakkale Battles. According to Doğan Erginbaş's own words, the monument represents the collective rising of martyrs from every corner of the world to the sky. There are bas-relief sculptures on their feet that reflect battle moments. Every year on March 18, citizens and state officials from all over the country gather in the monument ceremony area to hold memorial ceremonies. Symbolic graves located at the back of the monument have been opened for visitation since 2007. The names of 59,408 martyrs who fell during Canakkale Battles and whose names were identified until today are listed on the martyrdom site. A bas-relief that is 45 meters long in front of symbolic martyrdom reflects the battle period. After passing through the relief, a mezar of unknown soldier and Mustafa Kemal Atatürk's marble tablet with his words spoken to the enemy forces in 1934 can be seen at the beginning of symbolic martyrdom. A skull belonging to a Turkish soldier who was carried by an Anzak soldier next to him after Arıburnu battles to Australia is expressed and years later, on March 10, 2003, it was handed over to Turkey and officially buried in this place with official ceremony on March 18, 2003.
