A burial boat, known as the Årby vessel, was unearthed near Rasbo in Sweden back in 1933. A person of undetermined sex, accompanied by their personal belongings and a pair of oars from the boat, was discovered laid to rest inside it. Alongside this individual, a horse and a dog were also buried. It is evident that the grave had already been plundered, likely during ancient times, as all metal objects were missing. The Årby vessel shows signs of extensive use, featuring patches and repairs on its hull. This small boat was equipped with only one pair of oars and appears to have been primarily used on rivers and lakes. Archaeologists estimate that the vessel dates back to between 850-950 CE. Today, the remains are displayed at the Swedish National Museum of Antiquities in Stockholm. The museum also published a comprehensive monograph on the boat in 1993 titled "The Årby Boat", edited by Carl Olof Cederlund.
