Ábside Central y Presbiterio. Arbás, León
sketchfab
The triumphal arch of the central apse is very pointed and has a structure of a portal, with several richly decorated arquivoltas over multiple columns. This central apse is highly original in having a base plate on which slender columns rise that generate five concave niches where three lighting openings are located. These columns adorn and collect the nerves that run through the dome forming a galleried shape. This unusual arrangement of the apse reminds us of the Asturian church of San Juan de Amandi and the Zamoran one of La Magdalena. The hemicycle is presided over by an image of the Virgin with the Child, which is a reproduction of the wooden statue from Gradefes Monastery, since the original was burned during the Civil War. The presbytery is covered with a four-part cruciform vault, not with a semi-cannon as usually happens in Romanesque architecture. In its key, a relief with leaves surrounding an Agnus Dei that holds a cross with one of its front legs was placed.
