On a recent visit to Lewis near Calbost while researching another shieling-related project I came across the remains of this shieling hut along with two other huts in poorer condition, little more than stone settings. The area is high-quality upland pasture by Western Isles standards. In the locality there are no place names on current OS mapping but on the 6-inch first series the adjacent loch is called Loch na h-Àirigh Duibhe which is where I got the name from. Canmore reports potential presence of four hut remains on the 1st Edition 6-inch OS map, but the remains of the fourth hut were not a stone-built structure but rather a more ephemeral turf-walled bothy. The Canmore reference is https://canmore.org.uk/site/134076 which also has further details about my field visit.
