ZXY 3D printer kinematics
grabcad
This is a kinematics scheme I believe I have invented in the particular application with 3D printers. The CAD model here is basic, only serves to visualize the how the mechanism works. If someone can prove such kinematics was used before for 3D printers, please comment and provide source, because I do not intend to claim to be the inventor is I am not. But I was unable to find any information for prior art with this kind of kinematics, again, for 3D printers in particular. For other use cases it does exist. I publish this here on GrabCAD.com on 17.08.2023 as a gift to the world and humanity, making it public domain, I forfeit any right to patent it but in the same time by publishing it I make it impossible for anyone else to patent this invention as well, since it is public domain information now. I only wish to be given credit for inventing it in case I'm indeed the first inventor. The idea here is instead of having movable bed which from 400x400mm size is already too heavy and has too much inertia to be compatible with quality prints, to attach the Y axis rails to the X axis slider so that the bed is fixed. I called this ZXY (spelled zi-ex-wi) kinematics after the sequence of attachment of the axis's. A big advantage of this construction is that the entire mechanism can be isolated from the work volume and thus produce a printer made with cheap parts which can operate at very high temperature (approaching 500 degree C heated chamber temperature). Even for the Y axis which is unavoidably exposed to the hot environment regular GT2 timing belt can be used if it is attached to the slider indirectly via steel cable. In this case only the steel cable is exposed to heat, but it withstands it with ease. For separation of the mechanism compartment from the hot work volume the Y axis rails can go through a slot or sliding wall mechanism made of heat insulating material.
