ZX Spectrum Gamepad
cults3d
EDIT - 18.02.2020: Added a new D-pad with angles for each direction to reduce the chance of mis-clicking diagonally. Check my Amiga-gamepad page for new back pieces that provide better leverage for the D-pad, requiring less force. I haven't created a dedicated back piece for this one yet. Gamepad designed for the ZX Spectrum. Some pictures show my Amiga gamepad, which is internally the same and uses the same switches. Apply double-sided tape to the underside of all buttons for a softer feel. Leave the protective film on the tape. Use 6x6x7mm tactile switches: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Momentary-Tactile-Push-Button-Switch-6-6-4-3-15mm-Mini-Micro-Small-PCB-Mounted/263259205523 Wire the switches according to the pinout in Spectrum03.jpg. I wired mine with lengths of wire and glued them into the gamepad's bottom half using superglue under each switch. The sliding switch allows you to turn the rightmost button into an "up" function, enabling play without needing the D-pad for jumping. You can wire it to switch between button 2 and up or however you prefer. This switch is a direct fit, but many others can be used by filling gaps with tape or hot glue: https://www.ebay.com/itm/5-Pcs-DC-50V-0-5A-2-Position-DPDT-2P2T-PCB-Mount-Vertical-Slide-Switch-6-Pin-DIP/323744692280 Use a M3x8 mm pan head screw in the center under the D-pad as shown in one picture to function as a pivot. Adjust the screw height until you achieve your desired feel, I prefer it so that all four directions can't be pushed simultaneously.
