Zulu Warrior

Dr Iskandar often gives his vessels distinct names, drawing from recognizable personas or archetypes and imbuing them with human characteristics. This approach is particularly fitting since a pot's components are named after human body parts. The Zulu Warrior stands out at 63cm tall, its long neck and slender body evoking the image of an African tribal fighter. Shoulder and neck hues of rosy plum colour add to the overall effect, while criss-crossing stripes on its lean body suggest tribal tattoos or markings on a spear and shield. Dr Iskandar employs a more painterly technique in this vessel, resulting in rivulets and drips of glaze that add depth and character. The crusty, blistered surface created with crackle slip further reinforces the image of weathered outdoor skin, reminiscent of a warrior's rugged appearance.
