Zorum's Knight of Egypt with customizable support
cults3d
This is an integrated support set designed to help print Zorum's fantastic Knight of Egypt model successfully. I have included an STL file containing both the knight and supports, as well as a separate STL file featuring only the supports for multi-material printing. The support structure provides critical support on the chin and all other overhanging areas of the body. For those who prefer to focus solely on chin support, alex_belov has created a useful chin rest (thing:2040669) that can be used as an alternative. Additionally, I have designed a support structure in front of the head, which slows down the top layer of the print, preventing overheating of the ears during the final stages of printing. Each support interface is carefully crafted to be one extrusion width wide, making them easy to remove after printing. The Fusion 360 file is included, allowing users to adjust the thickness of the supports to suit their specific nozzle and print settings. A custom parameter called "thickness" controls all interface zones simultaneously. By default, the file features 0.45mm thick supports, suitable for 0.4mm nozzles printed at 100% scale. For prints scaled up to 200%, users can modify the thickness in the Fusion 360 file to 0.225mm and then adjust the settings in their slicer to achieve a single extrusion line at 0.45mm thickness. When preparing for print, ensure that single-wall extrusions are enabled in the slicer, and carefully inspect the contact points in the preview to avoid any issues. The supports will naturally detach after printing, but for optimal results, separate the support sections at the base and remove them individually using flush cutters or a knife. The print featured in the images was completed at 140% scale with a layer height of 0.12mm in carbon fiber PLA material.
