Look no further! This design offers an alternative solution that eliminates the need for additional electronics. The most popular method involves installing a second axial fan on one of the many specialized brackets available on Thingiverse. However, this approach has its limitations. Axial fans often struggle with low working pressure, making them less effective in achieving optimal cooling flow. Enter the radial fan, a game-changer for 3D printing enthusiasts. With its ability to generate higher working pressures, the radial fan is almost mandatory for this application. But be warned: some radial fans may not survive the 24V PWM signal used by popular 3D printers like the Zortrax M200. One such radial fan I encountered was the Delta Electronics BFB0412HHA-A117. While it's a great option, it doesn't fare well under high voltage. To address this issue, I designed a simple filter/divider circuit that allows you to print without problems up to 60% fan speed. To take advantage of the radial fan's full potential, you'll need to isolate the hotend using cotton coats or a smaller heating block. This might require some adjustments to your printing settings, but trust me, it's worth it. Design and Printing The design is optimized for printability without supports. However, be aware that the air flow may seem directed towards the hotend at first glance. In reality, the output ducts are carefully designed to direct the air flow with a downward angle, ensuring maximum cooling efficiency. To achieve the best results, use a heat-resistant filament like PBT and anneal it in the oven according to your preferred settings. You'll also need three M3x25mm screws to secure the fan duct to the cooling block. [EDIT 11/22/2017] Good news! You can now completely avoid electronics with the radial fans from Aliexpress. These fans tolerate the 24V PWM signal of the Zortrax M200, run slower, are incredibly silent, and provide the correct air volume. [EDIT 12/06/2017] Z-VENT_SLP_V4b.stl has been added to the mix. This lightened variant is optimized in various aspects: * The main air duct has fewer obstacles, particularly at the air intake window * An area that created strong turbulence was eliminated * The third fixing front screw was removed to free up the entry obstruction * The support base of the two rear supports was expanded for improved solidity * A curved fin was added at the entrance to support long bridges * Two cable supports were added The only downside is that this design requires some supports. However, you can slice it using Zsuite beta2.2 or Simplify3D with great results. [EDIT 02/03/2018] Z-VENT_SLP_V4b.stl has been replaced with Z-VENT_V9.stl. The main improvement concerns the distance from bed of the rear area, ensuring safe printing without collision issues.
