Title: Zonnewagen (Solar Car) Artist: Camiel Van Breedam (1936 - ) Date: 1974 Medium: Wood, Iron Dimensions: H. 260 cm x W. 187 cm D. 380 cm Accession #: MID.B.413 Camiel Van Breedam's sculptures cleverly craft wheeled structures that may or may not function. The style of his objects bears a striking resemblance to the unconventional shapes of ancient firearms and heavy artillery scattered across Europe, evoking an air of awe and surrealism. This captivating quality gives rise to objects of intrigue and imagination. The solar car, a creation by Breedam, has been designed to transport the sun itself, according to its creator's vision. This unique assembly stands as a prime example of Breedam's artistic endeavors. He is fascinated by the relationship between finite and infinite, between what lies within and without. His goal is to mold the cyclical nature of life and engage the viewer. Breedam also crafts tables, collages, and installations that he places in mundane settings such as shop windows, subway stations, or libraries. Frequently, he works with found objects, aiming to liberate them from the grip of Western consumerism and breathe new life into these discarded items. Throughout his career, Breedam has garnered numerous awards both domestically and internationally. He is a member of the G58 Hessenhuis group in Antwerp and the Paris Mouvement Phases. This object is part of "Scan The World", a non-profit initiative launched by MyMiniFactory to create a digital repository of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks from around the world for public access at no cost.
