Zonnewagen (Solar Car) Artist: Camiel Van Breedam Date: 1974 Medium: Wood, Iron Dimensions: H. 260 cm x W. 187 cm D. 380 cm Accession #: MID.B.413 Camiel Van Breedam's sculptures are a playful creation of wheeled structures that may or may not function properly. The style of his objects is reminiscent of the unusual shapes found in old firearms and heavy artillery across Europe, evoking awe and surreal forms. The Solar Car sculpture is designed to transport the sun, according to its creator. This unique assembly showcases Breedam's art as a prime example of his fascination with the relationship between finite and infinite, inside and outside spaces. He aims to shape the cyclical course of life and engage viewers in the process. Breedam also creates tables, collages, and installations that he places in everyday environments like shop windows, subway stations, or libraries. He often works with found objects to give them a new life and save himself from Western consumerism's mania. Breedam has received numerous awards both nationally and internationally and is part of the G58 Hessenhuis group in Antwerp and the Paris Mouvement Phases. This object is part of "Scan The World", a non-profit initiative by MyMiniFactory that creates a digital archive of 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks from around the world for public access. Scan The World is an open-source community effort; if you have interesting items to contribute, email stw@myminifactory.com to find out how.
