https://youtu.be/zJ4dq0jks5g This Zoe-trope utilizes an ancient mechanical solution for the movie industry, the Maltese cross, also known as the Geneva wheel. It was used in cameras and projectors to rapidly move celluloid from one picture to the next. Since we no longer have our pictures on celluloid, we print them on a CD. Ten pictures per movie. Each step involves ten slightly different pictures rotating 36 degrees, giving the impression of motion. If you don't want to draw your own pictures, you can find plenty online. To get the right size, paste them in Word, click right, and set the width at 12 cm. The gear wheels were designed using an excellent and very simple-to-use gear wheel generator at http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:900277/#files An interesting article on the Geneva wheel (Maltese cross) can be found at http://kmoddl.library.cornell.edu/tutorials/10/
