Zimmer Quicksilver

This is a 1/24 scale model of a Zimmer Quicksilver. You may know that the Pontiac Fiero, with its mid-engine layout, plastic body panels, and dirt-cheap used price, makes for an excellent starting point for a kit car playing dress-up as something more expensive. People started exploiting this advantage while the car was still new, first with some not-quite-legal dealer-built Ferrari replicas, and then with this.\nZimmer builds "neo-classical" cars by adding 1930s-style front and rear bodywork to a modern car, while retaining the shape of the passenger compartment. The Quicksilver is a more cohesive design than any other Zimmer because it was styled by Don Johnson, who worked for GM at the time. They stretched the Fiero chassis by 16 inches, which amounts to 2/3 of an inch at 1/24 scale, so this model requires a big print.\nPrint Settings\nPrinter Brand: MakerBot\nPrinter: MakerBot Replicator 1\nRafts: No\nSupports: Yes\nResolution: .2\nInfill: 5%\nNotes: You can print the car body as one large piece or choose the Xtra Detail version, which splits the bumpers and sills into separate parts. Flipping those parts will allow you to print in different orientations if desired, but I'm unsure if they'll look any better due to the pins that attach them already not being oriented for maximum strength.\nYou can also decide to print the wheels as one piece or split them into "tires" and "hubcaps." You may want to print the hubcaps at .1 resolution. The tire sizes are staggered, so you need to print two front tires and two rear tires either way.\nPrint four pins to attach the wheels.\nI printed everything except for the wheels/tires and hubcaps with support, using helper discs on the ends of the sills and bumpers.\nPost-Printing\nEverything is snap-fit. The hubcaps fit tightly; you'll likely have to sand around the edge.
