Zhuge Liang, whose pronunciation in Standard Mandarin is [ʈʂú.kɤ̀ ljâŋ], was born around 181-234.[2] He held the courtesy name Kongming and went on to become a highly respected Chinese politician, military strategist, writer, engineer, and inventor. As chancellor and regent of Shu Han during the Three Kingdoms period, Zhuge Liang proved himself to be an exceptionally skilled and accomplished leader. His remarkable abilities as a strategist have earned him comparison to Sun Tzu, the renowned author of The Art of War.[3] Throughout his life, even while living in relative seclusion, Zhuge Liang's reputation grew for being an intelligent and well-learned scholar, earning him the nickname "Wolong" or "Fulong", which translates to "Crouching Dragon" or "Sleeping Dragon". Often, Zhuge Liang is depicted wearing a traditional Taoist robe and holding a hand fan made of crane feathers in his hands.
