Zeus Ammon
myminifactory
After the Greeks established colonies in Cyrenaica and settled in the lower Nile Delta, they linked Zeus with Amun-Ra, Egypt's supreme god, who was often depicted with a ram's head. This sculpture combines features from both deities. The worship of Amun, known as Ammon to the Greeks, also spread north to the Greek peninsula, where statues and temples were built at Delphi, Sparta, Thebes, Aphytis, and Megalopoli. Pindar wrote a hymn to Ammon that was inscribed on a triangular pillar in Thebes, where Ammon became the primary local deity. This plaster cast is a Roman copy of a Greek original from the late 5th century B.C. If you create new work with this model and want to share it, email web@smk.dk or stw@myminifactory.com.
