Zerstorer 1936 Z-20 « Karl Galster» (1945)
sketchfab
Z20 Karl Galster was one of six Type 1936 destroyers commissioned by the Kriegsmarine in the late 1930s. Built to serve, she completed her construction early in 1939 and spent most of her time training for combat. At the outbreak of World War II in September, Z20 Karl Galster was deployed off the German coast to lay minefields, but soon shifted to inspecting neutral shipping for contraband goods in the Skagerrak. In late 1939 and early 1940, she helped lay three minefields off England that destroyed one British destroyer, a fishing trawler, and twenty merchant ships. After a refit enabled her to participate in combat, Z20 Karl Galster was sent to Norway for escort duties. Later that year, she was transferred to France where she launched several attacks on British shipping.
