At its core, it's based on the idea that every number has an additive inverse, making (+A) + (-A) =0 a fundamental concept. For instance, (+1) + (-1) equals 0 and (+5) + (-5) also equals 0. This key understanding, combined with the connections between addition and subtraction, helps explain why 0 – (-1) equals +1 and eventually leads to the realization that (-1)(-1) equals +1.
