If you don't want to use auto-level, you need to adjust your Z stop. The ReconOps Z spacer doesn't work on my Ender 3 NOT PRO, I'm sure of it. I've tried it multiple times. So I designed a custom solution. After three prototypes, this modification fits my printer perfectly.
