Zebra Paper Bird
cults3d
In short: A paper (1.8mm thick cardboard) folding model of a bird with a distinctive zebra pattern is now available to print, use OpenSCAD to modify parameters, or incorporate the zebra pattern into your own design! The long story... Did you struggle with printing its predecessor and fail? I did too, even with my upgraded stepper extruder printer. Bot1334 previously created an amazing model that worked perfectly on her downgraded MK4 DC extruder, which often oozes and provides ideal support. To print the bird, I first modified OpenSCAD to create a larger-footed bird design and then thought it would be cool to add a pattern: checkered? (too common) How about making the bird look like a cow or a zebra? After a quick search, I downloaded a zebra pattern but couldn't import it into my opensource tools. No worries! With the help of Thingiverse tutorials, I found a way to make it work. I used Inkscape to outline part of the pattern, imported it into Blender to create a usable STL file, fixed any issues with Netfabb, and then applied boolean operations, difference, and intersection using OpenSCAD.
