Initially presented as a concept in 2015 and quickly forgotten as a project destined for nothing, the Zarooq Sand Racer 500 GT has proved capable of rising from the ashes after years of work, to position itself as the new object of desire in the automotive world. It's an SUV with a sports car weighing 1,200 kilos. Its appearance says it all, and it is not clear whether it is a sport capable of walking on the roads or an off-roader that can eat the asphalt of the circuits. In fact, it's both, thanks firstly to a weight of only 1,200 kilos - thanks to an intensive use of carbon fibre as a material for panels and other parts - and secondly to a General Motors engine with eight cylinders in a V-shape that delivers 6.2 litres of capacity and no less than 525 horsepower. But there's also the Lamborghini-designed four-wheel drive and a versatile five-speed sequential sport transmission, all of which are combined with adaptive suspension for use on the road or in rough terrain and dunes, and a variable-height body. In addition to this, there are specific tyres for tracks and sand. With four-wheel drive and five gears, the Zarooq Sand Racer 500 GT is a machine on any terrain. Inside, there are two seats in a luxury environment designed by the specialist Mansory, with details such as Apple Car connectivity. The English designer Anthony Janarelly has also worked on the development of the vehicle, with the collaboration of the Spanish team Campos Racing. The Zarooq Sand Racer 500 GT has been completed as one of the most eye-catching hybrid sports and off-road projects of the moment. So much so that the first thing that comes to mind when looking at it is the super-specialized vehicles that compete in the Dakar Rally. In fact, in his presentation Zarooq reported that he had two parallel projects in mind; the first was the creation of a special circuit in the dunes to show how to express their potential in that environment and the second was the creation of a single-brand cup with these cars in the Emirates itself. At the moment nothing is known about these projects, which may be being carried out with the same discretion as the realization of his vehicle. It has a General Motors eight-cylinder V-shaped engine with 525 horsepower. And of course, according to all its possibilities and capabilities there is the price. No less than 450,000 euros will have to disburse the first customers of an edition initially limited to 35 units that will begin to be delivered in 2018. Those fortunate enough will have to wait six months or more to receive delivery of a vehicle that is born including a target for collectors and of course for lovers of strong sensations behind the wheel.
