Medieval fortress sits 70 kilometers from Split, Croatia. Built for defense during the second half of the 15th century to counter Turkish invasion, it stands strong. Its triangular ground floor boasts two roundabouts in the northwest and northeastern corners. Within its walls, crews lived alongside their commander's quarters, a churchyard, a water tank, and a gun store nestled in a barracks. The Turks seized control around 1500, further modifying the Avale and Poletnica towers east of the fort. Throughout the 17th century, the fortress changed hands between Christians and Turks multiple times. A wooden palisade was then erected around the lower part of the wall. On the south side, a small guesthouse stood until it fell into disuse after being liberated by Turkish authorities in 1684. The fortress has undergone significant renovations since 2004, its current state a result of systematic archaeological excavations carried out by Kaukal d.o.o. in 2017.
