z-hight adjuster for Makerbot Replicator clones
thingiverse
This is a simple yet effective z-height adjuster for CTC Twimaker. It will likely work on CTC, Wanhoa and other Makerbot Replicator clones as well as the original Makerbot (untested). The part was initially designed to mount a lever that triggers the z-stop but it wasn't necessary in the end. As seen in the pictures, I have removed it from the STL file eventually. The 2nd version STL files are also available but I don't need them. I have successfully installed this adjuster on my CTC Twimaker without the lever. I had considered some stiffening bed mods or complete new bed holder builds made from 20x20 aluminium extrusions, but they would require too much effort and cost. What I really wanted was a fast and fine adjustment mechanism for the z-height endstop that's at least as good as the one on my modified K8200. I have to disagree with "Rick 3D" - his moveable z-stop mount plate is not suitable for me. It looks nice in CAD but it's not reliable in reality. He calls it a holder, but I need an adjuster that can handle fast and fine adjustments. So here's my solution: print out the part, which is designed to match 5mm plywood thickness. The cutout is 75mm wide. Install a long 3mm screw with a small head in place. If needed, secure it by adding a spring on top or a hexnut at the bottom of the bracket. If your switch PCB is mounted using two 5mm thick washers, replace them with 2-3mm thick ones or leave them out altogether. At least screw the PCB directly to the back if you don't have washers handy. You can even print out a pair of new washers if needed. To install the adjuster, place the bracket with the screw on the left side over the edge of the plywood and push it down until it sits at the bottom. Make sure the screw head hits the trigger or lever (I've removed mine from the switch). Don't hit the PCB itself! This adjuster was created using Tinkercad - you can edit it online at https://www.tinkercad.com/things/fRuITBUIUGF
