Z carriage remixed + 52mm spindle slider block for the original metal bracket (DremelCNC)
thingiverse
This thing contains a few designs I created during my DremelCNC build that I decided to share. - STD_Zcarr-46 - This is my rework of the standard Z carriage to allow using [8mm bearing pillow(s)](https://www.banggood.com/8mm-Inner-Diameter-Zinc-Alloy-Pillow-Block-Flange-Bearing-KFL08-p-991444.html?cur_warehouse=CN). I made it with pockets for (140mm x) 12mm rods on both sides, making rod insertion easier. It's also designed to be printed laying on its side without supports, which makes the part stronger due to the layer direction. Note that using pillow block(s) is optional - it will support "stock" way of mounting as well. - nema17_top_mnt - This is a bracket to mount the NEMA17 stepper on top of the pillow block if you go with that approach. - STD_Z52-46 - This is a slider that allows mounting the 52mm spindle with the metal bracket that comes with the kit. It's much preferred over any printed brackets because it helps a lot with thermal dissipation (~46C with it vs ~60 with a printed analog) and is more stable mechanically. Note that this version may or may not work for you - it relies on a thread in the plastic to tighten the metal bracket to the slider (use 6mm tap to thread the holes if you have one). This worked for me with my PETG printed part, but I can see it failing in some cases. If that happens, you may look at the 42mm variant which allows to use 6mm threaded rod and nuts to tighten it from both ends. But that would also require reprinting the Z carriage using my 42mm version (see next part in this list). The original part distance between bearings is 46mm. - Zcarr-42_v04 + Z52-42-v04 - These are the Z carriage and slider for 52mm spindle metal bracket that use 42mm distance between the bearings, thus allowing using pieces of 6mm threaded rod and nuts from both ends to mount the metal bracket. It was my initial version before I realized threads in the plastic can actually hold up good enough. Print settings suggestions: - Use PETG - NOT PLA!! At least for the slider.. Spindle gets hot and PLA starts to deform when in contact with something even slightly warm, - Use thicker walls, this gives more strength than high infill. Like use 1.2mm or even 1.6mm walls and top/bottom and then 20-40% infill + if you use Cura, the Gyroid infil pattern makes the parts super strong.. FreeCad source files and step files are included. I can eventually respond to requests for slight changes if someone has an idea how to make it better..
