Z Ballscrews and TAZ X Carriage for AO-10x and Mendelmax Printers
thingiverse
This project builds on my previous Linear Z Rail for AO-10x initiative by incorporating a pair of 10mm Z Ballscrews, X rods, and the Taz 4 X Carriage assembly. This allows the AO-10x Series printers to use the latest toolheads, up to and including dual extruder designs. Before embarking on this project, make sure you've completed all the prerequisites for the AO-10x Linear Z rail project. The necessary components from that project will be reused, specifically the Z motor mounts and top Z railmount assemblies. I have included those files as a convenience, but it's assumed that you have already accomplished that task. Additionally, this project requires several open-source Aelph Objects / Lulzbot files, which can be found at http://download.lulzbot.com/TAZ/4.0/production_parts/printed_parts/TAZ_printers/, with specific links mentioned on the instructions page. These files cannot be uploaded here due to certain restrictions. Ballscrews are indeed expensive, but this upgrade should deliver ultimate precision enhancements for your printer. You may not print an entire basketball, but a highly detailed softball is well within reach. For more information and updates on this project, refer to: https://forum.lulzbot.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=654&p=6754#p6754 Here are the necessary components: - One Micrometer Head (available at http://ecatalog.mitutoyo.com/Micrometer-Heads-Series-148-Fine-Spindle-Feeding-of-01mmrev-C1548.aspx) - A 300mm SFU1605 ballscrew paired with BK12 and BF12 pillow blocks (commonly found on Ebay) - Assorted heat set inserts for M3 and M5 threads (available at McMaster Carr) - A selection of M3 and M5 bolts, washers, and other relevant components Additionally, you will need the following printed parts: * x_idler_v2.3.stl * bearing_holder_v1.1.b.stl * double_bearing_holder-2.0.stl * extruder_mount-1.1.1.stl * x_carriage_guide-1.0.stl * x_carriage_v2.0.STL All the printed components can be downloaded from: http://download.lulzbot.com/TAZ/4.0/production_parts/printed_parts/ This is an intense modification, best attempted by individuals who have extensive experience in 3d printer frame upgrades and modifications. All parts except for the Z endstop should print without support, except where heat set inserts are needed to be added to the ballscrew mounts, X motor and idler pieces, as well as the X carriage assembly.
