Z Axis Shims

Z Axis Shims

If you attach a surface (e.g. a lexan plate) to your 3d printer bed, it will cause the Z axis to home incorrectly. For instance, a 2mm plate would force the Z home position to be 2mm below where it should be. This can make it impossible to adjust the bed level because the adjustment screws operate across a finite range. To resolve this problem, you need to reset the vertical Z home position by an equivalent distance. That can be done by physically adjusting the microswitch - or using this tool, the microswitch can be tricked into resetting at a different height. This tool provides several spacers which slip onto the back riser of the Makerbot 2 and trigger the Z home microswitch. These spacers may or may not work on other clone printers, it depends whether the clone offers a similar riser to trigger the Z home microswitch.
