Z-Axis Follower Prototype

Z-Axis Follower Prototype

thingiverse

This untested Z-Axis follower prototype is designed for insertion into one or both sides of the z-axis ToM, where press-fit bearings typically go between top and bottom z-axis pieces. It boasts minimal modifications, requiring only four screw holes currently, while featuring space constraints on one side. The goal is to force the z-axis against inner bearings for optimal performance, with potential screw hole additions for rigidity. Sketchup was used in design, although it's visually uninspired and OpenSCAD-challenging. To begin, print just the bottom 4mm piece with rod hole to ensure compatibility before proceeding with the entire model. Alternative polished options to explore are found at thingiverse links: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:8823 and http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6184. Consider reducing bearings from six to four, strategically placed for pressure distribution against potential tilting of the z-axis forward.
