Yue Celadon-Glazed Jar and Cover with Applied Medallions at The Sainsbury Centre of Visual Arts, Norwich
myminifactory
The jar boasts a rounded shape, topped with a matching circular lid and handles on either side. Each handle features a minimalist face comprised solely of eyes, nose, and mouth. A medallion pattern covers the upper half of the jar, forming horizontal bands that encircle the object in a continuous motion. The medallion itself is round and consists of a central square shape surrounded by crosses. Horizontal grooves also form bands on the top half of the jar, spaced evenly between each motif band. A false handle adorns either side of the jar for added visual appeal. The upper portion of the pot has been glazed to perfection while the lower half remains unglazed and rough to the touch. Crafted from earthenware, the lower half is a rich red-brown hue whereas the glazed upper half shines with a vibrant greenish color. A small chip can be spotted on the rim of the lid. Visible cracks at the base of the jar hint at its age and wear, while scattered chips on the unglazed surface reveal the underlying material's true colors.
