Young woman holding flowers
myminifactory
Young woman grasping flowers circa 480-460 BC, crafted with precision, head from Hellenistic period, Cypriot craftsmanship, origins in Amathonte, Cyprus, unearthed by Ed. Paridant's excavations, limestone with vibrant paint. Inventory A.875 (Fr. Ed. Paridant of Aerschot, 1874). On display at Musée d'Art et d'Histoire (Musée du Cinquantenaire, Brussels, Belgium). Created using ReMake and ReCap from AutoDesk. This young woman wears a tunic and coat decorated with red stripes and crosses, adorned with bracelets and a necklace, while her left hand cradles a bouquet of daffodils. The head, more modern, was attached to the body in recent times. The Greek tradition of depicting young women (kore) is evident in the posture and gesture of her right hand holding her garments. However, the jewels and flowers are quintessentially Cypriot, as well as the stiff attitude and schematic drapery. This figurine likely represents a bearer of offerings and stood proudly in a sacred sanctuary. For further updates, consider following me on Twitter at @GeoffreyMarchal.
