This sculpture was created by Louis Petitot, a French sculptor born and raised in Paris. As the pupil and son-in-law of Pierre Cartellier, he honed his craft under the guidance of an accomplished artist. In 1827, Petitot exhibited "A Young Hunter Wounded by a Snake" at the Paris Salon, which caught the attention of art enthusiasts, and it was subsequently purchased for the Musée du Louvre. This notable achievement earned him recognition, and he was invited to produce a life-sized bronze sculpture of Louis XIV to be installed in Caen's place Saint-Sauveur. The unveiling took place on May 24, 1828, with resounding success, leading to Petitot being honored as Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur along with Crosatier, a renowned Parisian bronze-founder. This monument replaced the stone sculpture of Louis XIV created by Jean Postel in 1684, which had been erected but later dismantled during the French Revolution. This object is part of "Scan The World", an innovative initiative launched by MyMiniFactory to build a vast digital repository of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks from around the globe.
