Credit: CARRARA, al sue re vittorio emanuele II (On front of base) The sculpture was likely commissioned for Victor Emmanuel II, who ruled Sardinia from 1849 to 17th March 1861. He became the first King of a united Italy on that date and held the title until his death in 1878. The Italians called him "Father of the Fatherland." Giuseppe Lazzerini di Carrara Pensionato signed the sculpture, along with the details: Fece in Roma. L'anno. 1859.
