This sculpture depicts a young faun, a mythological half-man and half-goat hybrid, engaging in playful activities with Bacchus, the Roman counterpart to Dionysus. The little child's carefree nature is already evident, while wine plays a prominent role in the composition, effectively confirming his identity as Bacchus. The artist behind this piece, Karl Begas, was a German sculptor who lived from 1845 to 1916. He often distinguished himself from his father, a renowned historical painter, by being referred to as "the younger".
