Young Derek's Treasure Safe

Young Derek's Treasure Safe

thingiverse

This toy safe design is tailored for my nephew Derek, an escape artist, who will learn about locks by using a functional lock and lockpicks within the safe. The printable design includes various pin diameters to avoid jamming issues; however, additional sanding may be needed. Although improvements can be made, this prototype works well with easy assembly. Requirements include three springs from ballpoint pens, glue, two 4mm x 50mm bolts, and downloadable Solidworks files for customization. To assemble, print all listed components, align the door and case, insert bolts into hinges, remove springs from pens, insert tumblers, pins, and bases, place springs in the door, slide the pin lid in place, test the key functionality, attach the locking plate with glue, and finally give the safe to a child for storage while learning about locks. Note: This project teaches children about lock mechanisms while providing a fun, interactive toy safe.
