The alluring demeanor of the figure brings to mind Dionysus (Bacchus), a character known for his wild and uninhibited nature. However, a closer inspection reveals that another mythological figure is subtly hinted at through the detail beneath the nape of the neck. While the Roman sculpture in question is one of several replicas created from the original Greek piece, its roots date back to around the middle of the fourth century BC. Daniel Cazes, June 2001.
