Yoshis are fictional anthropomorphic dinosaurs that serve as Nintendo-published video games stars. This dinosaur often referred to as a dragon takes center stage in Super Mario World (1990) on the Super Nintendo Entertainment System as Mario and Luigi's trusted sidekick. Later, Yoshis star in platform and puzzle games such as Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island and Yoshi's Story. Moreover, Yoshis appear in numerous spin-off Mario games including the Mario Party, Mario Kart, and Super Smash Bros. series, as well as various other Mario sports titles. As a key character in New Super Mario Bros. Wii (2009), Yoshis serve as companions and mounts for the characters, much like their original role in Super Mario World. Yoshis belong to a species of the same name that comes in diverse colors with green being the most common color.
