Yosemite's Cathedral Lakes Area 3d topo
thingiverse
The 3D topography of Cathedral Lakes and Budd Lake Drainage is impressively intricate; it was even necessary to split it into four parts for printing. After printing, each part was colored in with a blue Sharpie for better visualization. This detailed representation was derived from a LIDAR dataset available at opentopo.sdsc.edu, which captures individual trees but requires significant data reduction for computer processing. A tutorial video on the printing process can be found on YouTube and the print itself was featured on the 3D Printing Today podcast, accessible via iTunes, Stitcher radio, or directly from the source.
