Yosemite's 4 Mile Trail Switchbacks 3D Topo
myminifactory
This is a highly detailed model of the switchback section of Yosemite's four-mile trail. The terrain is extremely steep, requiring the trail to be carved directly into the rock face - a feature that not only makes this one of the world's most spectacular hiking trails but also renders it clearly visible in the 3D model. I strongly advise hiking this trail in a downward direction. The data used for this model was sourced from http://opentopo.sdsc.edu/, where visitors can freely download incredibly detailed datasets from all around the globe. We discussed this topic, along with many other things, on the 3D Printing Today podcast, which is available to stream on iTunes, Stitcher radio or directly from the source at http://threedprintingtoday.libsyn.com/. The techniques used to create these models are thoroughly explained in my YouTube video.
