Marichi's Pose 1: A Deeper Twist Marichi's Pose 1 is a seated forward bend that combines flexibility and balance to open up the entire back side of the body. By lengthening the spine, this pose helps to calm the mind and prepare it for deeper meditation. Begin by sitting on the floor with your legs extended out in front of you. Inhale deeply and lengthen your spine as you sit up straight. Exhale and fold forward at the hips, reaching for your toes or shins. Keep your knees slightly bent if necessary to avoid putting pressure on them. As you deepen the stretch, twist your torso to one side, keeping your arms extended in front of you. Hold onto your leg or ankle with one hand and use the other to press down on the ground beside you. Balance evenly on both hips as you breathe deeply into the pose. Hold for 3-5 breaths before slowly releasing back up to sitting. Repeat on the other side, twisting to the opposite direction.
