Chakrasana, also known as Urdva Dhanurasana, is a backbend yoga pose that forms part of the finishing sequence in Ashtanga's Primary Series. This asana gets its name from the Sanskrit word for Wheel, which describes the final position it assumes. It is commonly referred to as a backward bending pose in chakrasana or wheel pose. The word Chakra means Wheel in Sanskrit, hence the name. Chakrasana gives great flexibility to the spine, and acrobats often call this body position a back bridge.
