Yin Yang cable spool
thingiverse
The original design boasts a hub shaped to increase the bending radius of cables, but there's room for improvement. OpenSCAD sources are parametric, though comments could be more comprehensive. I updated the scad file prior to printing to minimize overhangs on the lid. However, after creating two spools, some issues remain: the design is too weak for less flexible cables and unwinding can cause jams due to cable tangling. Future modifications may include a detachable snap-on lid. Assembly requires printing and snapping together the lid and base; sanding and adding grease ensures smooth operation. STL settings suggest two perimeters' wall thickness and an extrusion width of 0.48mm, which is thin but functional. To insert a cable, align the lid with the center for easy insertion while holding the outside and twisting with your fingers through designated openings.
